Module 7, Recruitment Trends and Recruiting Outside the Box This module is specifically designed for participants to reflect on the current trends they may be seeing on their campus and share them with the rest of the group. We will also identify as a group unusual recruitment methods that seem to be working well. The primary information listed on this page is simply to set parameters and provide explanations. Recruitment Trends When discussing recruitment trends you will have a number of areas to reflect on: what is working, what is not, what does the current recruit look like, what is happening across your campus, what is happening in your overall environment.
When you identify what is not working you will want to try to explain why. For instance, a Meet the Brothers Night at the house only brought in 3 guys, all who were probably going to join already. You may identify that the chapter did not use a marketing plan, or that the activity was not ideal for complete strangers to get comfortable with the chapter, or that the chapter was simply waiting for men to appear instead of going out and finding them. When you talk about what the current recruit looks like try to identify their appearance, their financial situation, their general interests, and maybe even what they are first seeing when they enter into your school. Identifying what is happening across your campus is a lot more complicated then saying recruitment is up or down. You need to identify if there has been any positive or negative press lately, if there is campus construction going on that is changing student patterns, if there are new University activities occurring. Your environment is much more then your campus. Has there been a "world crisis" recently, or a change in our culture for some reason? Locally has there been a disruption or a change in activity? What is the culture like around the town or city you are in. Is there a big religious presence? Are there political issues? Has crime been up? Please complete the worksheets in the workbook labeled module 7. Did you know?
