Module 10, Creating a Recruitment Program

This module is intended to be completed by participants from the same chapter together.  There are no worksheets in the workbook for this section.  The program needs to be completed and turned in by April 15, 2005 and will count as your chapter's recruitment program on your accreditation score sheet.

This report should be emailed to nhq@akl.org as well as to your program directors in a typed format with all supporting materials that are requested in this module.  Adjustments to this program may be made and are expected after Recruitment Boot Camp.

Target number and type

The first portion of your program will identify your target number of men to recruit for the 2005 - 2006 school year.  You will need to identify how you came up with this number (ie. use the information from module 1) and what type of member you are looking for.  Please be as specific as possible.  Make sure to split your number into a fall expectation and a spring expectation.  The National Fraternity will alert you if your target number is lower then the one we calculate based on your chapter's recruitment history.

Target marketing strategy

Now that you know what type and how many students you need to recruit, you need to identify how you will market to these students.  You will want to correlate your marketing strategy with the activities of the chapter for the year.

In this strategy you will want to identify the resources you will be using and the materials you will be using.  You do not have to have them completed at this time but you will want to identify when those resources need to be available/completed and who is responsible for getting them done.

You will want to identify the locations, the events, and the timing of your recruitment efforts.  Be as specific as possible.  For example, if your intentions are to access places like the University Residence Halls, identify the process of gaining access, what their posting policies are and what timeline you have.

Chapter preparation

Chapter members need to be educated and comfortable with the recruitment program and the personal contact requirement that goes with it.  The chapter should have scheduled a recruitment retreat scheduled to follow Recruitment Boot Camp and before school starts.  This is to be led by you, the participants of this program.  You will want to have the date set prior to the end of this spring semester and you will want it mandated for all members (even seniors) to attend.  Make sure to include this information in your program as well as the date of the retreat.  Please identify some of the general information/activities you plan to include.  These ideas may change after RBC.

You will also want to distribute the program you are creating now to members before they leave school this semester so they can schedule accordingly for the fall.

Activities

Please provide a list of the activities you will be using in your recruitment program.  With this list you will want to explain the purpose of the activity, how you expect it to run, and which member is responsible for the activity.  Make sure you include a date that you expect the activity to be set up by so that if it changes you can adjust accordingly.

In this section you will also want to identify any University activities that may be occurring regarding recruitment.  Identify if there are IFC Rush activities and a rush period that need to be considered in your program.  Your recruitment should not rely on these activities but the chapter may want to participate as a part of the community.

Transition

Identify how you will keep track of all you do this year and how you will transfer it to the next committee upon the completion of your term. This process should become easier each year if a smooth transition takes place.
