The Fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda

Alpha Kappa Lambda members live their lives striving to be Men of Character Committed to Making a Difference. The following is our Mission Statement, Our Vision, and the nine points of living our identity our undergraduates follow.

Mission Statement

Develop a brotherhood, who, guided by the Five Ideals,
share a lifelong commitment to AKL and are dedicated
to assuming leadership roles in meeting the challenges
and responsibilities of life.

Vision

To be the premier collegiate experience leading
to lifelong brotherhood.

Nine Actions of Living our Men of Character Identity

1. We achieve our Academic Potential

Chapter GPA about the All-Men's Average.

Graduation Rate exceeds the campus average.

Each member must maintain institution's academic good standing to remain active and not less than a 2.0 GPA.

Each chapter has a documented written scholarship program, which regularly engages chapter members with faculty, recognizes individual achievement, counsels members not in good academic standing, and maintains a productive learning environment for chapter members.

2. We Recruit and Develop Value-Centered Leaders

Each chapter has an active value-centered leadership program for all members and pledges that is co-facilitated by the undergraduate chapter leaders, representatives from the Chapter Advisory Council, and a faculty/staff member.

Ninety percent of those pledged/affiliated are initiated.

3. We Provide a Safe and Healthy Environment

Full compliance with all Risk Management Policies.

Substance-Free chapter living (defined as no alcohol or other drugs on chapter property or annexes).

Chapter social program includes substance-free events.

4. We Keep Each Other From Harm

Members actively intervene when others are at risk.

Chapters are free from hazing, harassment and abuse of any individual or group.

5. We Fulfill Our Duty to Serve

Individual member participation in a chapter service project that involves hands-on volunteering such as These Hands Don't Hurt and Adopt-a-School.

6. We Make the Campus and Community a Better Place

Every member is involved in at least one campus activity or organization.

Close working relationships are established with other chapters, parents, alumni and campus and community leaders in order to make a positive contribution.

7. We Prepare Our Leaders for Life

Implementation by each Chapter of Kai Membership Development Program throughout the undergraduate experience.

8. We Provide Guidance and Counsel

Establishment of a five person minimum Advisory Council with members from alumni, parents, faculty and staff, and community leaders to work with chapter leaders and meet monthly with the chapter.

9. We Exemplify Our Five Ideals through our Values and Standards

Chapters have documented and enforced code of conduct using as a minimum standard of the Nine Basic Expectations of Fraternity Membership as developed by the NIC Commission of Values and Ethics.
