The Fraternity and Foundation
The AKL Education Foundation and Fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda are separate, distinct legal entities. The Fraternity is a Missouri Corporation, while the Foundation was incorporated in Indiana in 1984. Each has its own board of directors.
Both organizations are non-profit. The Foundation, however, is qualified by the IRS as a Section 501(c)(3) - educational and charitable. Contributions to the Foundation are deductible under the IRS provisions if the donor itemizes. Contributions to the Fraternity or directly to any chapter are not tax deductible. The AKL Education Foundation - Tax Deductible Opportunities
Established in 1984, the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public education foundation which functions apart from the Fraternity.
Its purpose is "to establish a fund for the promotion and encouragement of outstanding leadership, high scholarship and exemplary character among male students of American colleges and universities."
The Fraternity Loyalty Fund - Non-tax Deductible Opportunities
In 2006 the Fraternity created a Designated Fund to encompass a number of functions unavailable through the AKL Education Foundation due to IRS regulations. These functions include but are not limited to:
