The Fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda

National Affiliation

National Affiliation is important for fraternities. It provides a structure, oversight, insurance and longevity that local organizations rarely have. The following are benefits for affiliating with Alpha Kappa Lambda.

Membership - You become a member of an organization that boasts 23,000 members nationwide. We have had charters on almost 80 college campuses and have alumni in every state and almost every major city in the country. We have prominent alumni in almost every walk of life from government to Olympic athletes. Famous doctors, scientists, professional football players as well military generals grace our membership roles. AKL strives to produce leaders.

Organization - Through the National Headquarters members receive services, guidance and organization. The National Fraternity Staff assists chapters and colonies in their operations, provide leadership opportunities and support as needed. The staff also coordinates alumni activities and our national conferences. Records of membership and national communication all are a part of the NHQ.

Insurance - In a litigious society it is important that our undergraduates and volunteers are covered by insurance. AKL carries a 6 million dollar life insurance policy for our members' protection in case the unthinkable were to occur. We also carry Member Accident Protection Insurance which provides medical coverage for our undergraduate members while they are in school as a supplement to their current medical coverage.

To affiliate with AKL, an interest group must send a letter of petition to the Fraternity, all members must meet the Fraternity's membership requirements and pay their membership fee, and a staff or volunteer must meet with them to install them as a colony.

The National Fraternity Structure

The National Fraternity is governed by our National Executive Council (NEC)which is elected at our biennial Conclave. The NEC ranges from 8 to 13 members depending on appointments filled. The NEC determines policy and provides direction to the National Headquarters.

The National Headquarters is run by the Executive Director who is also a member of the National Executive Council. The Executive Director and staff are paid to manage the day-to-day operations of the organization
